How many people on this planet speak Chinese?

I haven’t sent you a Whackadoodle riddle in a while, so I though it was about time. Ask your friends this ‘riddle,’ and let me know what they say:
So how many people on this planet speak Chinese?
Drum role please…
And the answer is:
Zero people on this planet speak Chinese.
Although according to Worldometer, as of December 31, 2024, the population of China is approximately 1,417,694,756; none of its citizens speak “Chinese.”
Chinese is a people, not an language. And if you want to get technical, even that statement is not quiet accurate. I should have more correctly said, “The Chinese people, or simply Chinese, are people or ethnic groups identified with China, usually through ethnicity, nationality, citizenship, or other affiliation.")
Furthermore, there are more than 302 languages spoken in China, with Standard Mandarin being the country’s official language as of 1912.
